Digitization and sustainability

The ongoing digitization and networking of production and manufacturing processes is currently ushering in a phase of fundamental transformation for conventional industrial production. In addition to networking, the integration of the real and digital worlds is also being driven forward. While the discourse focuses primarily on technical solutions, improvements in productivity, and economic advantages, sustainability aspects, as well as topics such as usability and human-machine interaction, have so far played a subordinate role.

We are investigating the possible effects of digitization and networking of industrial production on the sustainability management of companies and redesigning the usability of corporate control systems. The focus is on preventing the operator from being overtaxed, making information available in a way that is appropriate to the task, increasing the operator's mobility, and the operator's acceptance of technology.
